Help Save Huntington Beach
Playhouse |
|
For 43 years, Huntington Beach Playhouse has
produced full seasons of live theatre - including musicals, comedies &
Shakespeare in the Park - for the enjoyment of local residents. For the past 10
years, HBPH has leased the Library Theatre from the City of Huntington Beach and
each year the City has added a higher ticket surcharge on top of the rent
payment -- this year HBPH will pay the City nearly $90,000. Most other area
not-for-profit community theatres pay little or no rent in recognition of the
cultural and artistic contibution they make. At the end of this year, HBPH's
lease with the City for use of the Library Theatre expires. While the City has
proposed spending millions of dollars to construct a senior center in Central
Park, it has not been willing to provide support for preserving local live
theatre that touches people of all ages. Do you wish the City of Huntington
Beach would support theatre arts by extending HBPH's lease and doing so at
minimal cost so that live theatre can continue to be presented locally? |
